Bengaluru: In a major push for grassroots development, the Bengaluru South City Corporation has announced an effective allocation of ₹3 crore per ward for the financial year 2026–27, combining ₹2.25 crore for development works and ₹75 lakh earmarked for maintenance.

The announcement was made during a monthly meeting chaired by Commissioner Shri K.N. Ramesh with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), where key civic issues, infrastructure plans, and budget priorities were discussed in detail.

Highlighting the budget roadmap, the Commissioner said the enhanced ward-level allocation is aimed at accelerating local development and addressing long-pending civic issues. Alongside this, major infrastructure projects such as flyovers, underpasses, and road widening works are being planned to ease Bengaluru’s growing traffic congestion.

During the meeting, RWA representatives raised several critical concerns, including malfunctioning of the ‘Sahaya’ app and 1533 helpline, with complaints often being marked as resolved without actual action on the ground. Issues such as building violations in HSR Layout, delays in desilting stormwater drains (rajakaluves), shortage of pourakarmikas, and irregular garbage collection leading to black spots were also flagged.

Pedestrian safety emerged as another key concern, with RWAs pointing out widespread footpath encroachments and demanding expansion of road marking and mechanised sweeping across all wards.

Responding to these concerns, the Commissioner issued clear directives, making source segregation of waste mandatory and urging citizens to actively participate. He proposed deploying volunteers in each ward to work alongside solid waste management teams, citing successful models like community-led initiatives in Koramangala.

To strengthen local governance, RWAs were advised to form “route-level teams” to address hyperlocal civic issues more effectively. The Corporation also encouraged RWAs to collaborate through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships to fund development activities at the ward level.

In a move to institutionalise citizen participation, the Commissioner also launched the “Federation of Bengaluru South City Corporation Resident Welfare Associations,” bringing together all RWAs under a unified platform to streamline communication and coordination with civic authorities.

Reassuring residents, the Commissioner stated that the Corporation is committed to improving transparency, speeding up project execution, and ensuring that the ₹3 crore per ward allocation translates into visible on-ground change across Bengaluru South.
