KALABURAGI: A tragic incident unfolded in Ladamugali village in Kamalapura taluk, as a young man named Nikhil Pujari (23) took his own life by hanging from a tree in a field. This devastating act came after Nikhil was accused of caste-based abuse, sparking outrage among the villagers.
The turmoil began when two communities clashed during a village fair, leading to a compromise brokered by village elders. However, tensions escalated when one group filed a complaint alleging caste abuse, resulting in a police case being registered against Nikhil and others at the Narona police station.
In response to Nikhil’s suicide, members of the Halumatha community staged a protest in the village, demanding justice for the deceased. Despite efforts by the police and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to intervene, the community members remained steadfast in their resolve to seek justice.
Undeterred, the Halumatha community decided to march to Kalaburagi, carrying Nikhil’s body in a tractor, with plans to stage a protest outside the DC’s office. The tragic events have not only highlighted the deep-rooted issues of caste discrimination but also underscored the need for swift and effective action to address such injustices in society.
