New Karnataka Guv comes from Dalit background
BENGALURU:
In a sudden development, the President of India has appointed Union Minister Thawarchand Gehlot (Social Justice and Empowerment) as Karnataka’s Governor.
Rashtrapati Bhavan has issued a press communique on the appointment of eight governors to different states.
Other appointess include Kambhampati Hari Babu (Mizoram), Mangubhai Chaganbhai Patel (Madhya Pradesh), Rajendran Vishwanath Arlekar (Himachal Pradesh), PS Sreedharan Pillai (transferred and appointed as Governor of Goa) Satyadev Narayan Arya (transferred and appointed as Governor of Tripura), Ramesh Bais (Jharkhand), and Bandaru Dattatreya (transferred and appointed as Governor of Haryana).
Gehlot, born on May 18, 1948 in a Dalit family in the village of Rupeta in Nagda, Madhya Pradesh, is currently the Leader of the House in the upper house.
