Site next to three-floor building in Kamalanagar of West Bengaluru was dug up without constructing retaining wall
BENGALURU:
Yet another building collapse was reported from Kamalanagar in West Bengaluru on Tuesday night.
The three-floor building, constructed on a 30×40 site, collapsed due to the surrounding soil getting loose as a neighbouring site had been dug up for the foundation without constructing a retaining wall.
Three of the six flats were occupied in the building, which reportedly tilted at around 10 pm. “As sooShn as the building tilted, all three families were evacuated. No casualties or injuries were reported. The mud might have got loose due to the ongoing rains and also due to the non-construction of a retaining wall,” former ward corporator M Shivaraj told TheBengaluruLive.
The building is situated in ward 102 (Vrushabavathi Nagar) near the NGO colony, just behind the Shankarnag bus stand. The foundation of the building has reportedly sunk. The neighbouring site was dug up six months ago, said another source.
BBMP officials, Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta, local MLA, and Exicse Minister K Gopalaiah rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
