Karnataka notches single-day high of 149 positive cases

3 deaths take state’s Covid casualties to 40

BENGALURU:

Mandya was the worst hit by the coronavirus on Tuesday with a massive 71 positive cases, as per the afternoon bulletin of the Karnataka health department. This apart, three deaths, including one in Bengaluru, were reported.

With this, a record single-day high of 149 cases was registered, taking Karnataka’s total tally to 1,395. Alone Mandya has 171 positive cases reported till Tuesday evening and all of them have travelled from Mumbai.

Apart from Mandya, Davanagere reported 22 cases, Shivamogga 10, Kalaburagi 13, Bengaluru 6, Udupi and Uttara Kannada 4 each, Hassan 3, Chikkamagalur 6, Bagalkot 5, and Gadag, Yadgiri, Vijayapura and Chitradurga, Raichur and Bidar one each.

The health bulletin listed the deaths as:

“P-1185, 61 years, male patient, resident of Ballari, diagnosed as SARI with travel history to Bengaluru, known case of IHD with recent history of cardiac surgery. Died on 19.05.2020 at designated hospital, Ballari. Tested positive for COVID-19.”

“P-1291, 65 years, male patient, resident of Vijayapura, known case of HTN, DM and IHD, was brought dead on 18.05.2020 to designated hospital, Vijayapura. Tested positive for COVID-19.”

“P-1364, 54 years, male patient, resident of Bengaluru, known case of IHD, was admitted to private hospital, Bengaluru and died on 18.05.2020. Tested positive for COVID-19.”

Mumbai ‘link’

Out of the 149 cases detected in the state on Tuesday, 106 have a travel history of Mumbai.

As per the health department, the death toll in the state has gone up to 40, while there are 811 active cases and around 543 have been discharged.
