Super-spreader scare in Bengaluru as BSF trainees test positive

Date:

Officials face huge task in tracing 1,000 passengers who arrived in Bengaluru on same train on Sept 18

BENGALURU:

Around 34 Border Security Force (BSF) trainee jawans have tested positive in Bengaluru, causing panic not only among the military authorities but also posing a huge problem for government officials in tracing the thousand-odd fellow passengers on the train which arrived in Bengaluru on September 18.

Of the 34 Covid cases, 20 have been admitted to the Devanahalli general hospital while the other 14 have been quarantined at a Covid Care Centre established by the BSF.

All the BSF trainees had come from Shillong by train on September 18 and instead of heading to the BSF headquarters were taken to a training camp at Karehalli, near Nandi Hills in Devanahalli taluk.

“As part of the mandatory government procedure, all the trainees’ samples were taken on September 19 and reports of 34 have come out positive. As a precaution, 20 have been admitted at Devanahalli general hospital while 14 have been quarantined,” said an officer associated with the developments.

How to trace 1,000 fellow-passengers?

Sources said the much bigger task before the Bengaluru Urban district administration and BBMP is to obtain details of around 1,000 fellow-passengers of the infected BSF trainees who were on board the train.

“The administration needs to get the data from the Railways on all the passengers who were on board the same train. It is a huge task to get information of all the primary and secondary contacts,” said another officer.
