Yadgir/Bengaluru: A shocking incident has surfaced in Shahpur town of Yadgir district, where a Class 9 girl from a residential school gave birth inside the school toilet. The incident has triggered panic among students, parents, and authorities.
According to eyewitnesses, the girl had gone to the toilet when she suddenly experienced labor pains. Hearing her cries, classmates rushed to check and were shocked to see her delivering a baby inside the toilet. Teachers immediately shifted the minor mother and the newborn to a hospital.
The case has now drawn the attention of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), which has demanded a detailed report by evening. Commission officials slammed the negligence of the hostel staff for failing to conduct timely health checkups despite visible changes in the girl’s condition.
Yadgir DC Harshal, SP Prithvik Shankar visited the spot and confirmed that the principal, warden, and staff nurse have been suspended for attempting to cover up the matter. Meanwhile, a case has also been registered at Shahpur Police Station against the girl’s brother, who is suspected to be involved.

Officials have assured strict action, including FIRs, suspensions, and disciplinary proceedings under Karnataka Civil Services rules. Police are investigating to identify all those responsible for the minor’s condition.
Parents, who trust residential schools for safety and education of girl children, have expressed fear and outrage after the incident. The shocking case has sparked fresh debate over safety measures in hostels and the accountability of school authorities.
