RCB Stampede Tragedy: Karnataka Government to File Criminal Cases Against DNA, KSCA, and Police Officials

Date:

Bengaluru: The Karnataka cabinet has approved the filing of criminal cases against event organiser DNA Entertainment, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and other responsible entities over the stampede incident that occurred during the RCB IPL victory celebration in Bengaluru. The tragic incident, which claimed 11 lives, unfolded within just 18 years of the long-awaited IPL trophy win and has sparked widespread outrage.

Following the recommendations made in the Justice Cunha Committee report, the cabinet resolved to take strict legal action against those held accountable, including private firms and government officials mentioned in the report. The report, submitted after extensive investigation, identified multiple lapses in event planning, crowd control, and safety protocols.

According to sources, the government has also initiated departmental inquiries against police officials whose failure to ensure adequate security arrangements contributed to the disaster. Some officers have already been suspended.

The cabinet further noted that the organisers had conducted the event without necessary approvals, which significantly contributed to the chaos. The decision to pursue criminal action is based on the committee’s explicit identification of entities and individuals responsible for the mismanagement.

The government also confirmed that DNA Entertainment has approached the High Court seeking a stay on the findings of the Justice Cunha report.
