Chikkamagaluru: In a major mishap amid heavy monsoon showers, a private tourist bus overturned near Devanagool village in Chikkamagaluru district on Friday, leaving over 25 people injured. The bus was ferrying employees of a private firm from Bengaluru to Kudremukh, en route to Nethravathi Peak for a trekking expedition.
According to officials, thick fog and slippery conditions caused the driver to lose control, leading the vehicle to overturn along a hilly stretch. Fortunately, there was no loss of life, though several passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.
Local residents rushed to the spot and helped evacuate the injured, who were taken to government hospitals in Chikkamagaluru and Mudigere. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Mudigere Police Station, and a case has been registered.
Authorities have reiterated warnings for travellers during the monsoon season, particularly in regions along the Western Ghats, where landslides and flash floods are a recurring risk. With an orange alert issued for the next five days in Chikkamagaluru, officials have advised tourists and trekkers to exercise extreme caution.
The district administration has urged the public to stay alert and avoid venturing into vulnerable areas during adverse weather conditions. Further investigation is underway.
