POCSO Case: Murugha Shree Released from Jail

Date:

CHITRADURGA:

Shivamurthy Sharana, the revered pontiff of the Chitradurga Murugharajendra Bruhan Math, has been released from judicial custody on Thursday. He had been held since September of last year, facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This significant development comes after the High Court of Karnataka granted him bail on November 8.

The Second Additional District & Sessions Court, located in the district headquarters town, issued an order on Wednesday instructing the district prison authorities to release the Seer. This decision was made after carefully examining the conditions set forth by the High Court and thoroughly verifying the relevant documents.

Shivamurthy Sharana, a highly respected spiritual leader, has now regained his freedom after a period of detainment. This news brings relief to his followers and supporters who have been eagerly awaiting his release. The decision by the High Court of Karnataka to grant him bail demonstrates a recognition of the importance of due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

The High Court granted bail with seven conditions:

  1. A personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and two sureties for the same amount.
  2. Witnesses cannot be threatened.
  3. The passport must be submitted to the court’s custody.
  4. Attendance at hearings must be through video conference.
  5. Surrenders must not abuse the order granting bail.
  6. Violation of the court’s conditions will result in automatic cancellation of bail.
  7. Notably, Muruga Shri is prohibited from entering Chitradurga district until the trial of the case.
