Panic as Bengaluru building catches fire, but no casualties

Firemen take 2 hours to douse blaze at under-construction building at Konanakunte Cross in South Bengaluru

BENGALURU:

Local residents, labourers and motorists panicked after a fire broke out in an under-construction building at Konanakunte Cross in South Bengaluru on Saturday afternoon. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and put out the blaze in two hours. No casualties were reported. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

According to Fire and Emergency Services officials, they were informed of the fire at around 12.45 pm by one Srinivas working in a private firm close to the blaze-hit building. The caller reportedly told the officials that huge plumes of smoke were emanating from the under-construction building which is next to Prestige Falcon City.

Blaze spread fast

The fire was put out with the help of a water tanker and a water bowser. According to one official, the blaze started on either the third floor or the terrace of the building which is being planned as a mall. The thermocol roofing made matters worse as the blaze spread to all three floors in a matter of minutes.

According to the fire officials, workers inside the building rushed out on seeing the smoke, and no casualties were reported.
