BENGALURU:

The state government is deliberately trying to postpone the BBMP elections, said opposition leader in the BBMP council Abdul Wajid. He said the opposition would challenge the move in the High Court.

Speaking to reporters in Friday, he alleged that the state government was aiming to postpone the civic polls by proposing an increase in the number of wards to 225. Even in 2007, the then BJP government had postponed the elections on the pretext of adding 110 villages to the BBMP.

“The government has not been able to provide adequate infrastructure to the 110 villages which were previously included in the civic area. The government is now planning to add another 60 villages to the Palike. The government must first look at the reality of the 110 villages and then take appropriate decisions,” he said.
