Nipah outbreak in Kerala: Karnataka's Kodagu is on high alert

MADIKERI:

The Kodagu health department has begun taking precautions in the district since it borders Kerala following the confirmed deaths of two people from the Nipah virus in the Kozhikode district.

To provide specialised and individualised care to infected patients in the district, separate wards in the district hospital and primary health centres have been set up. Medical personnel in the Kodagu area are on high alert following the worrisome increase of the Nipah virus in Kerala.

Dr. K. M. Satishkumar, the district’s chief medical officer, has asked that any cases of Nipah virus infection or symptoms discovered in the district’s environs be reported to him immediately.

Additionally, it has been determined to survey primary healthcare facilities’ fever patients. Employees of the Health Department have been told to treat patients with fever with extra care.

In anticipation of the Nipah virus spreading, preparations for separate wards have already been completed, and seven beds have been set aside in the district’s primary health centres and district hospital. Additionally, the Kodagu district is already home to 150 to 200 people who are feverish every day as a result of the hot weather. The patients with fever are being closely monitored by the health department.

In addition, Keralans entering the country are being checked for symptoms and checkpoints have been set up. The Health Department is also investigating the travellers from Kerala’s past travel patterns.
