Jufri Jawhar Damudi was allegedly disseminating ISIS propaganda online under pseudonyms

BENGALURU:

Sleuths of the National Investigative Agency (NIA) on Friday conducted searches in Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district and arrested key terror suspect Jufri Jawhar Damudi, in a case pertaining to RC 14/2021/NIA/DLI (‘ISIS-Voice of Hind’ case).

The case was registered on June 29, 2021, at the NIA police station, New Delhi, in connection with a conspiracy of the proscribed terrorist organization ISIS to radicalize and recruit Indian  Muslim youths to wage violent ‘jihad’ against the Indian state. According to NIA, ISIS terrorists operating from various conflict zones along with ISIS cadres in India have created a network by assuming pseudo-online identities wherein ISIS-related propaganda material is disseminated for radicalizing and recruiting members.

Arrests in J&K

Earlier, NIA had conducted multiple searches in Jammu & Kashmir on July 11 and arrested  3 accused persons, Umar Nisar, Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, and Rameez Ahmad Lone, all residents of the residents Achabal in Anantnag.

A cyber entity, ‘Abu Hazir Al Badri’, a key operative of ISIS involved in the translation of ‘Voice of Hind’ into South Indian languages, was identified as Jufri Jawhar Damudi, resident of Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada. He was arrested on Friday in a joint operation of NIA and the Karnataka police. Jufri Jawhar is the younger brother of Adnan Hasan Damudi, who was arrested for ISIS-related activities in 2016 and is currently under detention in a separate NIA case (RC 04/2016/NIA/DLI).

Jufri had allegedly created multiple pseudonyms on encrypted chat platforms and was also a member of various online propaganda channels of ISIS. During the searches, a large number of digital devices such as mobile phones, hard disks, and SD cards were seized.
