New Education Policy has potential to make India a ‘vishwaguru’: Ashwath Narayan

BIDAR:

The National Education Policy (NEP-2020) aims to create a well-rounded personality in students by imparting knowledge and skills along with instilling patriotism, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Minister for Higher Education, said on Sunday.

Addressing a workshop on the NEP at Gurunanak Engineering College, organized jointly by the Department of College & Technical Education, University of Gulbarga and the Gurunanak college, the Minister said the NEP aims at creating an equitable society by empowering students from economically weaker sections.

‘Holistic education’

“The Indian tradition had emphasized creating well-rounded persons through knowledge. But that had been sidelined in recent centuries. Now, the NEP aspires to revive that without neglecting ongoing global developments. This policy considers health & wellness, physical fitness, mental fitness, sports, music, humanities, environment, sustainable development, etc., as part of education,” he said.

The policy has been drafted taking into account what great visionaries like Vivekananda thought about education and knowledge, and has the objective of making India a ‘vishwaguru’ in the coming decades, Narayan said.

Union Minister Bhagavanta Khuba, MLA Rahim Khan, MLC Shashil G Namoshi, Babu Wali, President, BUDA, Prof Dayananda Agasar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Gulbarga, and faculty from different colleges were present.
