It will assist vulnerable sections during lockdown period

BENGALURU:

Now, Bengaluru South Lok Sabha MP Tejaswi Surya has set up a ‘Bengaluru South Coronavirus Task Force’.

The office of the MP, in association with the Bengaluru South and South-East division police, will attend to the needs of senior citizens and other vulnerable sections, especially dialysis patients and pregnant women, during the lockdown period.

The team comprises more than 250 volunteers, police officers, health department officers and heads of social service organization’s.

The Office of Tejasvi Surya has created whatsapp groups based on the jurisdiction of the police stations of the constituency. About 1,500 volunteers have enrolled in the Task Force and they have been added as members to the WhatsApp group of their jurisdiction. Nodal officers of every police station, the BBMP zones and the health department are also members of these WhatsApp groups.

The calls coming onto the helpline will be directed to a cloud-based call centre. The requirement will be redirected to the respective jurisdiction’s WhatsApp group, where the police and the volunteers will coordinate to attend the grievance. Similarly, the police would also post the requirements of food packets and grocery kits for the economically weaker sections coming in their jurisdictions on the WhatsApp groups.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will provide grocery kits while the Bengaluru Hoteliers’ Association and Foundation India will assist in procuring food packets. The volunteers will then coordinate the delivery of such items with the police.

Surya said: “The volunteers will also help with medical and grocery shops with their marking for social distancing and maintenance of the same. They will also keep a vigil eye on those under home quarantine to ensure they don’t venture out and put others in danger. It will entirely be a citizen-driven helpline for citizens and involving the police, health department and BBMP officials.”

Those in need can contact the helpline number 99464 99464, said NR Ramesh, president of the Bangalore South district BJP unit.

Those who wish to volunteer can give a missed call on 99464 99464.
