KG Halli cops use teargas to disperse rioters

‘Provocation’ was a ‘derogatory’ post against minority community

BENGALURU:

In a late-night development on Tuesday, miscreants belonging to a particular community vandalised Pulakeshi Nagar legislator Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy’s house in Kaval Byrasandra. Vehicles in front of the house were set on fire by the mob.

The vandals were reacting to an allegedly derogatory social media post by one of Murthy’s relatives (in reply to another post). During the incident, the MLA was not at home.

DCP’s car damaged

The mob also resorted to vandalism at the KG Halli police station by setting fire to some two-wheelers parked in premises and overturning DCP Sharanabasappa’s Innova car. Soruces also said that nearly 50 vehicles were also damaged and torched.

Chamarajpet MLA BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan rushed to the spot to pacify the mob, and the police had to resort to teargas to disperse the mobsters.

Meanwhile Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has given free hand for cops to bring the situation under control. City police commissioner Kamalt Pant visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
