First batch of KIA cars to be exported by rail
BENGALURU:
The first-ever NMG (New Modified Goods) rake for export of KIA SUVs to Nepal was loaded on Monday from Penukonda to Nautanva (Nepal border).
Incidentally, this is the first export consignment of KIA Motors, which has a manufacturing plant in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to TheBengaluruLive, Bengaluru Division DRM Ashok Kumar Verma said, “Bengaluru Division is now loading about 15 to 20 NMG rakes every month carrying SUVs, tractors, tillers and farm equipment across the country. NMG loading last year was almost nil.”
TCIL, which always used road transport, was roped in during the pandemic to try NMG rakes for transporting tractors. Now, even when road transport has restarted, TCIL is loading over 10 NMG rakes per month from Bengaluru Division, Verma said.
