HASSAN:
In a significant ruling, the second additional district and sessions court in Hassan has handed down a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence, accompanied by a fine of Rs 10,000, to a man who raped a 67-year-old woman. The convicted individual, identified as Ramesh and hailing from Banavase village in Kattaya hobli, will face the consequences of his heinous act.
The incident occurred on July 29, 2020, when Ramesh unlawfully entered the woman’s residence through the roof and subjected her to a horrifying rape. Subsequently, he fled the scene, leaving the victim traumatized. The women’s police station in Hassan promptly registered a case in response to the distressing incident.
Following a thorough investigation, the police compiled a chargesheet, invoking sections 448, 323, 341, and 376 of the Indian Penal Code. The court, presided over by Hidayatullah Sharif, found the accused guilty of the crime and ordered the district legal services authority to provide a relief amount of Rs 4 lakh to the victim, acknowledging the immense suffering she endured.
