Bengaluru: Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George on Wednesday announced a ₹2 crore upgrade for the KSTDC Mayura Hotel at Bal Bhavan and said renovation of the Bengaluru Government Museum would be completed within six months.

George made the announcements after conducting a surprise inspection of Bal Bhavan and the KSTDC Mayura Hotel, where he reviewed food quality, hygiene and cleanliness. He also interacted with children on the premises.

In a post, the minister said the ₹2 crore upgrade of Mayura Hotel would include modern infrastructure, improved food quality and a dedicated focus on snacks preferred by children.

The hotel will also be developed as a model for other Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation properties across the state. George said an extension of the hotel’s lease was discussed with the Bal Bhavan Chairman.

The minister also announced that renovation of the Bengaluru Government Museum, established in 1865, would be completed within six months.

George said the Venkatappa Art Gallery would host more exhibitions and cultural events, while security would be strengthened for the artworks housed there.

During his visit to Bal Bhavan, George interacted with children, asked about their interests and treated them to ice cream. He described Bal Bhavan and the Government Museum as important public and cultural landmarks of Bengaluru.

Karnataka Tourism Department Secretary Ram Prasath Manohar and other officials were present during the inspection.
