BENGALURU: Two individuals, including Karnataka Youth Congress President Mohammed Haris Nalapad, were taken into preventive custody on Saturday for attempting to protest near Mehkri Circle, approximately 300 meters from the route where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was scheduled to pass, according to police sources.
This incident did not result in any security breach, police said.
The individuals were trying to stage a protest by holding an empty ‘Chombu’ (a small, round water container) on a side street close to the path where Modi’s convoy was set to travel after a campaign rally at the Palace grounds.

“We have detained two individuals as a preventive measure. They attempted to protest on a side street just before the PM’s convoy was due to pass. We intervened promptly,” stated a senior police official.
The Karnataka Congress has been conducting the ‘Chombu’ campaign to highlight issues such as reduced funds allocation, neglect of drought-affected areas, and disparities under the BJP-led NDA government.
The term ‘Chombu’ translates to water pot in Kannada. The Congress has used this symbolically to criticize the Modi government, suggesting that their contribution to Karnataka is as empty and deceptive as a ‘Chombu’.
