KEA to Handle All Medical Seat Allotments Through Transparent Process, Says Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil
BENGALURU: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil on Tuesday cautioned NEET aspirants and their parents against falling prey to middlemen promising medical seats through influence or unofficial channels. The minister stressed that all admissions would be conducted solely through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) in a transparent and systematic manner.
In a public advisory, Dr. Patil said students who have worked hard to clear the NEET exam should not allow anxiety over admissions to push them into the clutches of fraudsters. “There has been a rise in individuals falsely claiming to have contacts in top colleges. These scammers exploit the desperation of students and parents and disappear after collecting money,” he said.
This year, 1,47,782 candidates registered for NEET in Karnataka, of whom 1,42,369 appeared and 83,582 qualified. As competition for seats intensifies, the minister urged families to stay vigilant and avoid shortcuts.
“Do not act in haste. Do not believe anyone who promises you a seat outside the KEA process,” Dr. Patil said, adding that the government is fully committed to ensuring a fair and lawful admission process.
He also extended congratulations to students who secured high ranks in the exam and wished them success in their future medical careers.
Crackdown on Fraudsters
The minister warned that strict legal action would be taken against those attempting to mislead or cheat students with false promises. “The government will not tolerate such acts. Any individual found engaging in such fraudulent activities will be prosecuted,” he said.
With the NEET counselling season underway, officials have been put on alert to monitor potential scams. The state reiterated that the only legitimate route for seat allotment is through KEA, and any deviation could land students and families in legal trouble.
