Aussie varsities invited to open campuses in Karnataka: Ashwath Narayan
BENGALURU:
Minister for Higher Education, Skill Development and IT/BT Dr CN Ashwath Narayan has sought the co-operation of Australia to provide master trainers to train skill development trainers. The Minister made the request to an Australian delegation headed by Sarah Kirlew, Consul General of Australia, which met him on Tuesday.

During the discussion, the Minister also said that renowned Australian universities were welcome to open campuses in Karnataka and assured them of the required facilities. Australian universities can also enter into MoUs with any Karnataka university, including VTU. Priority will be given if they set up Centres of Excellence in collaboration with state universities, he added.

Existing MoUs
The Australian delegation noted that Australia has MoUs with many Karnataka institutions, including IISc, Raman Research Centre, ISRO and Indian Astrophysics Institution. The delegation was also keen to know about the startup ecosystem of the state.
The Minister said co-operation with Australia on cyber security would continue under the government’s ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ plan.
In 2020, our PM Shri @narendramodi ji and the Australian PM had decided on a strategic partnership between the countries in specific areas like cyber security.

Sam Freeman, Trade Commissioner, Australian Trade and Investment Commission, Andrew Calister, Vice-Consul, Australian Consulate-General, Dr CN Meena Nagaraj, Director, Department of IT/BT, and Gopala Joshi, ED, State Higher Education Council, were present.
