Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has raised serious concerns regarding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s involvement in the transfer of state government employees. During the hearing of a petition filed by BESCOM Assistant Engineer Chetan, the bench comprising Justices D.K. Singh and T.M. Nadaf expressed dissatisfaction with the Chief Minister’s direct interference in the transfer process.
The court emphasized that the transfer of government employees should be managed by the respective departments, stating that it is inappropriate for the Chief Minister’s office to accept such requests. The judges indicated that the Chief Minister has more significant responsibilities and should not spend time on these matters. They directed that a copy of their order be sent to the Chief Minister.
Additionally, the court sought clarification from the Chief Secretary regarding the transfer recommendations made by the Chief Minister. In response, the Chief Secretary clarified that the comments from the Chief Minister’s office are merely recommendations, and the final orders are issued by the relevant departments.
