Karnataka growers to benefit from 50% rail transport subsidy

Benefit for notified fruits, veggies via Kisan Rail trains

MYSURU/BENGALURU:

The Central Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has extended a subsidy of 50% on transportation of notified fruits and vegetables through Kisan Rail trains under ‘Operation Greens-TOP to Total’. Under this scheme, 50% subsidy is allowed in freight charges for transporting notified commodities, the benefit of which will be extended by Chief Parcel Supervisors at the loading station.

As per a press release by Dr Manjunath Kanamadi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and PRO, Mysuru Division, SWR, the objective is to protect growers of fruits and vegetables from making distress sales and thus reduce post-harvest losses.

Eligible items

Eligible crops are mango, banana, guava, kiwi, litchi, papaya, mosambi, orange, kinnow, lime, lemon, pineapple, pomegranate, jackfruit, apple, almond, amla, passion fruit and pear in the fruits category, and French beans, bitter gourd, brinjal, capsicum, carrot, cauliflower, chillies (green), okra, cucumber, peas, garlic, potato and tomato in the category of vegetables.

For more details, farmers/eligible entities are requested to approach the nearest Parcel Office in railway stations.
