Bengaluru: In a major push to strengthen public education and improve school enrollment, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today announced that the state government will provide free bus transportation for students studying in government schools, including Karnataka Public Schools (KPS), from LKG to PUC level.
The move, announced via a post on social media platform X, aims to ensure that children in remote and underprivileged areas have better access to school education without transport barriers.
According to DK Shivakumar, this initiative will particularly benefit children who live far from government schools. Special bus routes will be arranged by the state to pick up and drop off these students.

“The state government is committed to improving infrastructure in government schools. Providing free bus services to our children is a step toward ensuring that no child is deprived of an education due to distance or lack of transport,” he said.
He further added that the Education Department has been instructed to coordinate with transport authorities to implement this scheme effectively, especially in rural and hilly regions.
“This initiative will play a key role in reducing dropout rates and encouraging consistent school attendance, thereby empowering future generations through quality public education,” said Shivakumar.
This announcement is seen as a strategic measure to boost the appeal of government schools and reduce the dependency on private institutions, particularly in underserved areas.
