Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has issued an official notification forming a 75-members for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), aimed at streamlining urban governance and coordinating development activities across Bengaluru.
According to the order (No. 181 BBS/2025), the authority brings together senior ministers, MPs, MLAs, All five corporations Mayor, government officials, and civic experts to provide strategic guidance on infrastructure, housing, transport, health, education, and urban planning for the capital city.
The authority will act as a policy advisory body to address the pressing challenges of Bengaluru, including traffic congestion, waste management, civic infrastructure, housing expansion, water supply, and urban mobility.
Key Members of the Authority
- Sri Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka, will serve as Chairman.
- Sri D.K. Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister, will act as Vice Chairman.
- The authority also includes Members of Parliament from Bengaluru, elected MLAs and MLCs, BBMP Mayor, Deputy Mayor, BESCOM, BWSSB, BMRCL, BMTC, Pollution Control Board, Police Commissioners, and senior IAS officers.
Representation Across Sectors
The 75-member committee has been structured to ensure representation from:
- Legislators: MPs and MLAs from Bengaluru constituencies.
- Urban Agencies: All five corporations, BDA, BWSSB, BMTC, BMRCL, BESCOM.
- Law & Order: Bengaluru City Police Commissioner (Traffic & Law & Order).
- Planning: Town Planning Department.
Objective of the Authority
Officials stated that the authority will meet periodically to review ongoing projects, assess future development requirements, and provide recommendations for sustainable and inclusive growth of Bengaluru.
A senior government source said, “This authority ensures that Bengaluru’s governance is collaborative, bringing together political leadership, bureaucracy, and civic stakeholders. The focus will be on accountability and time-bound completion of projects to improve citizens’ quality of life.”
