Decision on engineering fees soon: Karnataka Minister

BENGALURU:

Keeping in mind the interests of students, the government will take a decision on engineering fees next week, Higher Education Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan said on Friday.

When media persons drew his attention to reports of some colleges hiking fees, he said, “There is no connection between the NEP and hiking fees. The intention of the government is to provide quality education at an affordable cost. Running colleges by collecting heavy fees is not justifiable.” He warned of action against colleges if fee-related complaints are received.

Urging students to join government colleges, he said government-run institutions provide quality education. The Minister reiterated that students can get admitted to colleges till October 1.

Narayan reiterated that the Karnataka CET-2021 results will be announced on September 20, as announced earlier.

Regarding criticism of the NEP by opposition leader Siddaramaiah, the Minister said, “His statements have already been answered through media and also on various platforms. Further, they will be answered on the floor of the House in the forthcoming legislature session.”
