Fifteen years ago, on February 27, a catastrophic 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Chile, near Concepcion, causing widespread devastation and a subsequent tsunami that claimed 550 lives. This was the deadliest natural disaster in the country since the 1960 9.5 magnitude quake, the strongest ever recorded globally. Now, scientists anticipate a significant seismic event in northern Chile.
