Hospital admits actress’s niece only after she calls police chief

Sudharani was kept waiting for an hour, told ‘no bed, no ventilator’

BENGALURU:

Apparently, Sandalwood stars fare no better than common folk when it comes to hospital admission during these pandemic times.

On Monday night, actress Sudharani had a trying time getting her niece admitted at Apollo Hospital in Seshadripuram. The actress was made to wait near the hospital gate for about an hour, from 10 pm to 11 pm.

Her elder brother’s daughter had severe kidney stone pains, and Sudharani took her to the hospital in an ambulance.

When the hospital staff kept saying there was no bed or ventilator available, she called up city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao to complain about their behaviour. Only after that was her niece admitted.

Speaking to the media, an angry Sudharani said, “When I asked them to give her first aid, they kept saying ‘no ventilator, no bed’. Only after making a phone call to the police commissioner were we allowed to get admitted. I know the police commissioner, but what about the common man who cannot complain to higher-ups?”

Minister’s warning

Later, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar tweeted: Actress Sudharani had visited Seshadripuram Apollo Hospital for treatment, but they delayed treatment, which I got to know through the media. Not just her, even a ordinary person should be treated without any obstruction. Disciplinary action will be taken against the hospital.”

Significantly, veteran leader B.S. Yediyurappa — who had limited his appearances at the BJP office to core committee meetings — was seen at the party headquarters for two consecutive days. Sources suggest that Shah, during his closed-door interactions, advised the Lingayat strongman to become more active in state affairs and guide the party from the front.
