Kodagu girl makes impassioned appeal to authorities to help trace mom’s phone
KODAGU:
Her mother succumbed to Covid, and now the only memories the young girl will have of her are the precious photos stored in the Covid victim’s mobile phone. The problem is: her mother’s phone went missing.
The unusual case of this Kodagu girl has gone viral on social media as she has tapped all the authorities she can think of to trace and return the missing mobile phone.
Hrithiksha of Gummanakolli village near Kushalnagar, as well as her parents, had tested positive for Covid-19 recently.
Mom died on May 17
She and her father, daily wager Naveen Kumar TR, were home isolated but her mother had to be shifted to the ICU ward at the district Covid-19 hospital, Madikeri. Sadly, the mother succumbed to the virus on May 16.
When Hrithiksha realised her mom’s phone was missing, she wrote for assistance in tracing it to the Deputy Commissioner, Kodagu, local legislators and the hospital authorities.
When her appeal went viral on social media, the district administration had to act and asked the police and the Health Department to trace the phone.
“The phone has memories of my mother. If anybody has taken it or finds it, please return it to us,” was her plea.
Police complaint
The girl’s father also complained to the Kushalnagar police that his wife’s mobile phone along with the SIM card had gone missing in the Madikeri hospital.
Kushwant Kolibail from the hospital said efforts were being made to trace it. “Usually, belongings of the deceased are returned to their family members. We have many phones with us as the relatives haven’t collected them yet. If we find it, we will hand it over to the family,” he said.
The girl’s relative, TK Santosh, said all 10 phones recovered at the hospital were checked but none belonged to the girl’s mother.
Netizens join in
Meanwhile, many netizens have urged the police to take the matter seriously. In response to one tweet, Karnataka DG&IGP Praveen Sood said, “Our team is on the job. But too many people claiming or working on it does not help the cause. We will do our best to trace it.”
