Has dreaded 3rd Covid wave arrived in Bengaluru?

As of July 31, caseload is 8,500 and more than 35 Bengaluru apartments are containment zones

BENGALURU:

With more than 8,500 active Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru, the third wave of the dreaded virus might have already knocked at our doors. More than 35 apartment complexes in Bengaluru that have witnessed infections have been declared ‘containment zones’.

These are the confirmed figures shared by BBMP with TheBengaluruLive, but the civic body’s health wing is yet to announce the actual number of infected cases in these residential apartment complexes.

Most of these positive cases have a travel history of returning from neighbouring states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Flat sealing protocol

A senior officer said BBMP officials have been directed to seal only the ‘infected’ flat and the flats above and below. If there are more cases, an entire apartment block is sealed, the officer added.

Going by official details, prime complexes like Raheja Apartment in Koramangala, Sapthagiri Apartments in Basavanagudi, Air Force Station, Jalahalli, Armed Police training school, Eiksha Enclave in Doddabommasandra, the Air Force training centre in Aramane Nagar, Temple Bell Apartment in Marappana Palya, Cenab Residency in Begur, Prestige Silver Oak Villa in Garudacharpalya, and Labor Shed, beside Alfa Garden Apartment near Hoodi, have been declared containment zones for a period of 14 days from the date they were sealed (see official charts).

As per Covid data shared by BBMP’s health wing, in the last 24 hours Bengaluru city witnessed 426 Covid-positive cases, of which 169 are female and 257 are male.

This includes 9 girls and 7 boys in the age group of 0-9, as well as 13 girls and 23 boys in the age group of 10-19.

Bengaluru currently has a 0.69% test positivity rate, while a 1.44% fatality rate was reported in the last 24 hours.
