Bengaluru / Anekal: Tensions flared in Anekal taluk on Monday as farmers staged a massive protest against the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) over the ongoing land acquisition process. Farmers alleged that the board is attempting to acquire more than 2,000 acres of fertile agricultural land, sparking widespread anger among the farming community.
Hundreds of farmers marched towards the Anekal Taluk Office premises, attempting to storm the gates. Police had erected barricades and locked the gates to block entry, but protesters forcefully pushed their way in, leading to tense moments.
The situation escalated into a heated confrontation between farmers and police, with protesters accusing authorities of ignoring their livelihoods.
“If you take away our fertile land, how will we survive? What will we eat and how will we cultivate crops?” farmers shouted during the demonstration.
Despite repeated objections, KIADB has moved ahead with the acquisition process, further fuelling the farmers’ anger. The protest saw verbal clashes, slogans, and strong resistance from the farming community, demanding the state government immediately halt the acquisition.
The police had to struggle to disperse the crowd, as farmers vowed to continue their agitation until the government withdraws the project.
