BENGALURU:
A case has been registered at the cybercrime police station in the central division regarding the creation of a fraudulent WhatsApp account in the name of KA Dayananda, the district collector (Deputy commissioner) of Bengaluru Urban district.
Following a complaint filed by Dayananda, the police have initiated an investigation and are actively searching for the culprits.
The individuals responsible for this deceitful act have been sending messages from the fake WhatsApp account to various officials within the district, demanding money. Upon receiving these messages, officials became suspicious as they were asked to urgently provide funds for undisclosed purposes. Consequently, they promptly reported the matter to the district collector.
“I urge all officials to remain vigilant and exercise caution when receiving any suspicious messages or requests for funds. Please report any such incidents immediately to the appropriate authorities,” he said.
