BENGALURU:
A fact-finding team of Citizens for Democracy has alleged that the DJ Halli and KG Halli riots in the city did not have a political angle but were pre-planned. Submitting its report to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday, the team called for a ban on SDPI and PFI.
Among the members of the fact-finding team was retired additional chief secretary Madan Gopal.
‘Locals involved’
Speaking to the media, Gopal said the riots were pre-planned and involved locals.
The report says the mob specifically targeted some prominent Hindus in the area, and was aimed at undermining the public’s confidence in the state government.
The fact-finding committee, headed by retired district judge Srikanth D Babaladi, included retired officials, journalists, lawyers, professors and social workers, apart from Madan Gopal and retired IFS officer R Raju.
The report estimates that around 36 government vehicles, around 300 private vehicles and many homes were destroyed in the violence, with the total damage estimated at Rs 10-15 crore.
