‘629 compactors assigned to quarry duty, but only 350 on the job’

Members of the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Committee staged a protest in front of the BBMP headquarters on Thursday against the awarding of SWM job codes without taking SCs/STs into consideration.
DSS president CS Raghu alleged that SWM bills were paid in in violation of the KTPP Act and the KMC Act.
In KR Market (ward 139), afternoon and night shift payments were unlawfully issued, and bogus bills were issued for providing safety gear to poura karmikas, he alleged.
Huge payments
The DSS chief alleged that Special Commissioner (SWM) Randeep and others had illegally sanctioned huge payments from December 1, 2018 to June 30, 2020. He said 629 compactors were assigned to units/quarries, but only 340 to 350 compactors were found disposing waste in quarries.
Poura karmikas’ plight
He said contract poura karmikas have been ignored for ESI and PF benefits from 2018 till date.
Raghu appealed to the BBMP Administrator and BBMP Commissioner to take action against the illegal SWM payments.
