Dr. M.A. Salim Appointed as the New Director General of Police for Karnataka

Bengaluru: The state government has officially appointed senior IPS officer Dr. M.A. Salim as the new Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG and IGP) for Karnataka. This decision comes as Dr. Alok Mohan, the current DG of Police, prepares to retire from service on May 21.

Born on June 25, 1966, in a town near Bangalore, Dr. Salim has an impressive academic background. He earned his postgraduate degree in commerce in 1989, followed by a postgraduate degree in police management from Osmania University in 1993. He further advanced his education by obtaining a doctorate in traffic management from Bangalore University in 2010.

Dr. Salim was selected through the UPSC examination and joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) as part of the Karnataka cadre in 1993. Currently serving as the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), he has held various significant positions throughout his career. His experience includes serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Gulbarga, Kushalnagar, and Sagar Sub-Divisions, as well as the Superintendent of Police in Udupi District. Additionally, he has worked as the Assistant Director General of Police (Crime) in Bangalore City and as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Mysore City.

Notably, Dr. Salim has garnered attention for his innovative traffic reforms implemented during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Mysore City. His expertise in traffic management, combined with his extensive experience in law enforcement, positions him well to lead the Karnataka police force into a new era of public safety and community engagement.
