Power TV had aired graft allegations against Vijayendra
BENGALURU:
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s son, Karnataka state BJP vice-president Vijayendra Yediyurappa, has filed a Rs 10-crore defamation suit against Kannada news channel Power TV.
The channel has been at the centre of a controversy after it aired an alleged sting operation against the Chief Minister’s son, which claimed that huge corruption and money laundering took place in the state to favour a few contractors.
Vijayendra had denied the allegations and had served a legal notice seeking an unconditional apology from Power TV managing director Rakesh Shetty and others.
On Wednesday at 6.01pm, Vijayendra tweeted, “Freedom of speech & media freedom cannot be a handle to defame & malign the reputation of anyone. Right to reputation is a part of right to life. Malicious efforts to defame me & my family members is unacceptable. Have filed ₹10 crore defamation suit against PowerTV MD & others.”

It may be recalled that when the Congress party raised the issue during the recent assembly session in September, the Chief Minister had dared opposition leader Siddaramaiah to prove the graft charges against his son or quit politics.
TheBengaluruLive tried to get a reaction from Power TV, but no response was forthcoming.
