“A tanker was carrying benzene from a subsidiary company of MRPL, called OAPL, to a Gujarat paint firm. The tanker capsized and burst into flames. The situation is now under control. Traffic on this road has been closed,” said Manoj Rajan, Commissioner, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, in a release issued to the media.
Chemical spill contained
He said the district administration has coordinated with MRPL and a team has been dispatched with neutralizing agents. An alternative tanker to transfer the chemicals remaining in the toppled one is being mobilized from Karwar by the company’s transporter. Action as per the standard operating procedure for chemical spillage is being taken, he added.
