Railways’ initiative aims to encourage marketing of local craftsmen’s products

Shyam Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru Division, on Friday inaugurated the ‘Stall of Channapatna toys’ at KSR Bengaluru railway station under the One Station-One Product scheme announced in the Union budget 2022-23.
The scheme is an initiative by the Ministry of Railways to promote local products in railway stations under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan of Prime Minister Modi. The initiative aims to encourage local craftsmen and artisans to market their products more effectively.
KSR Bengaluru is the first railway station in Karnataka to market the famed Channapatna toys.
Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Chief Commercial Manager, Passenger Services, Kusuma Hariprasad, Addl Divisional Railway Manager (Admin), and Dr AN Krishna Reddy, Sr Divisional Commercial Manager, were present on the occasion.
‘Toy Town’
Channapatna toys are special wooden toys and dolls manufactured in Channapatna town (popularly known as ‘gombegala ooru’ (Toy Town) of Ramanagara district in Karnataka. The toys have a Geographical Indicator (GI) tag.
Bengaluru Division has alloted a stall on a pilot basis for promotion of Channapatna toys to V Prakash, a local craftsman associated with the Channapatna Handicrafts Artists Association.
