Bengaluru: In a dramatic anti-corruption operation that played out on camera, Govindaraju, Inspector of KP Agrahara Police Station, was caught red-handed by Lokayukta officials while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4 lakh.

The operation was led by Lokayukta SP Shivaprakash, who headed the trap following a complaint alleging extortion and abuse of authority.

According to investigators, Inspector Govindaraju had allegedly threatened to falsely implicate a man in a chit fund-related case unless a bribe was paid. The total bribe demand was ₹5 lakh, of which ₹1 lakh was allegedly paid earlier, with the remaining ₹4 lakh scheduled to be handed over later.

Lokayukta officials laid a trap near the City Armed Reserve (CAR) Ground close to Sirsi Circle on Mysuru Road. When the inspector arrived at the spot and accepted the remaining ₹4 lakh, officials moved in and caught him red-handed.

Visuals from the scene show the inspector creating high drama during his arrest, as Lokayukta officers in civil clothes restrained him while he was still in uniform. The tense moments, captured on video, show the officer being taken into custody amid resistance and visible agitation.

The complainant, identified as Dandranj, had approached the Lokayukta after allegedly being repeatedly threatened with false implication if he failed to pay the bribe.

Following the arrest, a case has been registered against Inspector Govindaraju under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated.

Lokayukta officials stated that further investigation is underway to examine whether the inspector was involved in similar acts of corruption and to verify the role of others, if any, in the case.
