CM stable, says Manipal Hospital
BENGALURU:
In a shocker for the entire state administration, the head of the government, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has tested positive for the coronavirus. This is despite the high level of precautions the CM had personally, and his staff on his behalf, observed. His daughter too is infected, and both have been admitted to Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road.
According to a health department official, no overt Covid symptoms were noticed in the CM, but as a precautionary measure he was shifted to Manipal Hospital.
Sources said that the hospital will release a health update on the CM every 2 hours.
Yediyurappa, 77, has requested all those who had come in contact with him to self-isolate.
The shocking revelation was made by Yediyurappa himself. At 11.30 pm on Sunday night, he tweeted: “I have tested positive for the coronavirus. While I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine.”

As recently as Friday, the Chief Minister had met Governor Vajubhai Vala. He had been accompanied by Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Vijayendra isolates
Reacting to the development, Yediyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra has said that as a precautionary measures, he was going into home quarantine. He tweeted: “Thank you all for your messages and prayers. My father Shri B.S.Yediyurappaji is doing fine and under observation of doctors who said there is no need to worry. As a precaution, i will observe home quarantine for next 7 days.”

‘None else in family’
Another daughter of the CM, Arunadevi, who stays in Shivamogga, told a local private channel that no other family members, including MP BY Raghavendra and BY Vijayendra, have come in contact with virus.
“This was a routine test which was conducted frequently on my father and other family members who were staying in Bengaluru, which come out as positive for father and sister Padmavati. Both of them have been shifted to hospital,” she said.
Arunadevi also said that the her father never took off his face cover while speaking to family members (as a precaution) as he many people everyday.
Hospital’s late-night bulletin
“Hon CM of Karnataka Shri BS Yediyurappa has been admitted to Manipal hospital for observation. He is doing well, is clinically stable and will be monitored closely by our team.”
