BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner has undertaken projects worth billions of rupees to tackle infrastructure challenges in the city. This commitment comes in the face of Deputy CM D K Shivakumar’s assertion that even divine intervention may not be enough to solve Bengaluru’s traffic woes.
The traffic situation in Bengaluru continues to worsen with each passing day. The city’s development minister and deputy chief minister have expressed doubts about resolving the traffic crisis within the next three years.
This skepticism has sparked widespread criticism. In response, the BBMP has allocated Rs 10,000 crore this year to combat the traffic problem. A series of projects have been outlined to ensure that the city’s roads remain functional for the next 25 years. These initiatives include the construction of an 80-90 km elevated corridor and the white-topping of all major and minor roads in Bengaluru.
Furthermore, plans are in place to commence work on one or two flyovers this year, as well as the initiation of tunnel projects.
BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath stated, “We currently lack a comprehensive vision for the city’s infrastructure. We are in the process of developing an extensive master plan that encompasses the city’s future development, including roads, tunnels, footpaths, and parks in accordance with urban planning principles. By proactively creating a detailed plan with a DPR, we can streamline the execution process.”
