Bengaluru did Karnataka proud when BBMP was awarded the first place and the ‘Swachh City’ award at the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav-2021, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday.

The honour for Bengaluru’s civic agency comes under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban)’s Swachh Survekshan 2021, in the above 40-lakh population category of ‘Fast Mover’ Mega City.

Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra handed over the ‘Swachh City’ award to BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta. Also on the dais during the award presentation were BBMP Special Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Dr Harish Kumar and Joint Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Sarfaraz Khan.

It was earlier announced that Karnataka state as well as seven of its cities besides Bengaluru (Hubballi-Dharwad, Mysuru, Mudhol, Hosadurga, Krishnarajanagara, Kumta and Piriyapatna) had won the Centre’s ‘garbage-free’ tag.
