Bengaluru: The BBMP Officers and Staff Welfare Association marked the 79th Independence Day by launching a Freedom Day Walkathon and unveiling the poster and teaser for the upcoming National Karnataka Rajyotsava and Martyrs’ Tribute to be held in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on November 22.
At a ceremony held at the BBMP Central Office, BBMP Administrator Tushar Giri Nath, Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, Special Commissioners Dr. Harish, Munish Moudgil, Preeti Gehlot, and Association President A Amrut Raj formally launched the walkathon and released the event’s promotional materials.
Speaking on the occasion, A Amrut Raj highlighted that Kannada has a 2,500-year-old history and stressed the need to preserve and promote the language. He noted that the association has been organizing Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations both within and outside the state, as well as abroad, to encourage Kannada language, literature, art, and music.
Past milestones include the National Karnataka Rajyotsava in Kashi (2022), International Karnataka Rajyotsava in Nepal (2023), and National Karnataka Rajyotsava in Haridwar (2024). This year, the celebrations will be held in Pahalgam, Kashmir, alongside a tribute to those martyred in terrorist attacks.
Following the launch, participants in the walkathon marched from the BBMP Central Office to the Gandhi Statue on MG Road, where they garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The event saw the participation of BBMP officials, association members, and employees.
