Programme will start from Aug 16, will initially cover 2 wards in each Bengaluru Assembly segment: Ashoka

BENGALURU:

For early identification of Covid cases in Bengaluru, BBMP will launch an ambitious programme of ‘doctors visiting each household’. Revenue Minister R Ashoka said after a meeting with BBMP officials on Monday to assess that the programme will be launched from August 16 and initially two wards will be selected in each Assembly segment.

A team of doctors, paramedics and ASHA workers will visit every house. Data on symptomatic cases and comorbidities will be uploaded on an app, and the vaccination status of residents will be verified. In the case of symptomatic patients, spot testing will be done and medical kits will be provided.

Quick response teams

“A team of doctors will reach a household within six hours of a patient testing positive. We will also provide medical kits with doctors’ names and phone numbers. Gradually, the door-to-door survey will be extended to all 29 lakh houses in Bengaluru. The city will become a model for the whole country with this project. Around 108 teams will be formed initially,” Ashoka said.

“Currently, 181 Covid patients have been admitted to government and 462 to private hospitals in the BBMP limits. In Bengaluru Urban (excluding BBMP) limits, 88 patients are being treated. As far as vaccination is concerned, 67 per cent of eligible beneficiaries (60,54,264) have been administered the first dose and 19 per cent (17,07,679) have received the second dose in BBMP limits. In Bengaluru Urban (excluding BBMP limits), 92 per cent (9,78,671) have received the first and 22 per cent (2,13,976) have received both doses. The positivity rate has reduced from 0.9 to 0.64 per cent,” the Revenue Minister.

Tab on apartments

However, a high number of Covid cases are being reported from Yelahanka, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli constituencies. Most of these cases are in apartments and probably due to common areas. “We will ask marshals and health officers to keep a tab on apartments and if anyone is obstructed, criminal action will be initiated. I request everyone to follow Covid appropriate behaviour. We will soon come up with detailed guidelines, including for hotels. We will review the Covid situation after August 15 and take tough decisions if the situation warrants,” Ashoka said.
