More nursing colleges on anvil, enough oxygen stock: Karnataka Mines Minister

MYSURU:

So as to anticipate future health crises in Karnataka, the government is thinking of setting up oxygen generating units in all taluks of the state, according to Mines and Geology Minister Murugesh R Nirani. lses and .

Nirani was addressing a presser on Sunday following a review meeting of the works undertaken in Mysuru by his department.

In a move to address the shortage of nurses, the Minister said permission would be given for more nursing colleges. “The government had earlier decided against giving sanctions for new nursing colleges but we are facing a shortage of nurses today. We will give sanctions if educational institutions come forward to set up nursing colleges in the state,” Nirani said.

Shortage of oxygen cylinders!

Reiterating his earlier position on oxygen supply, Nirani denied there was a shortage of the life-saving gas in the state. “There is no shortage of oxygen, we have enough stock. But we are facing a shortage of containers to store the oxygen. Sufficient quantity of oxygen is being produced in the state and we are also receiving oxygen from the Centre. The problem is due to a shortage of cylinders,” he said.

The Minister said final-year medical and nursing students who are involved in Covid-19 duty will get grace marks. He said this will motivate others to join in the fight against the coronavirus.

Denying a shortage of medicines, the Minister said, “The demand for oxygen has declined and over 80 per cent of Covid Care Centres are vacant as the government and district administrations have been tackling the pandemic effectively. Black Fungus is not contagious and there is no shortage of medicines.”
