Congmen rally against fuel price hike

In a time of coronavirus, our netas should be sanitary role models. But that was hardly the case at a protest against rising fuel prices by Congressmen in the city on Monday. Precautions like wearing masks and social distancing were conspicuous by their absence.
It is also ironical that after around six decades of ruling the country, the Grand Old Party is beginning to feel the common man’s pinch over rising fuel prices! But better late than never, as the state Congress led by KPCC president DK Shivakumar staged a protest against the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices near the GPO-Income Tax Office junction.
For good measure, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders pedalled to the protest site. Siddaramaiah, who is leader of the opposition in the assembly, held a cycle rally from his residence to the party office on Queen’s Road.
In the crush generated by partymen cycling to the KPCC office from various corners of the city, an ambulance with a patient also got stuck in the logjam at Queen’s Road.
Not just that, partymen were blithely unconcerned about the state government order, as well as that of city police chief Bhaskar Rao, barring the assembly of more than 20 persons at one location.
