Dy Chief of Army Staff died at 93 at Virajpet residence on Saturday

Lieutenant General (retd) CN Somanna, who died at the age of 93, was laid to rest at Virajpet on Sunday.
The final rites were held as per Kodava tradition on Sunday at around 12.15 pm. He had breathed his last at his residence on Saturday.

Among the many tributes, PRO Bengaluru, Ministry of Defence @Prodef_blr, the official account of the Defence spokesperson, tweeted: “Lt Gen C N Somanna, PVSM, a distinguished retired Army Officer succumbed to old age- related illness at his residence at Virajpet, Kodagu on Saturday. Last rites of General Officer were carried out on Sunday with Military Honours.”
“A seasoned Infantry Officer, he was Commsnd into Gurkha Rifles & later joined GUARDS Regiment. During a distinguished military career, he was DG of Military Ops & later Dy Chief of Army Staff at a critical time in mid 1980s. He is survived by his wife Renu Somanna, Son & Daughter,” the tweet read.
