THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that the incident of sexual assault of a minor girl in  Aluva was an “isolated one” and the Opposition in the state was only trying to ‘tarnish’ the image of the government over the incident.

An adjournment motion was moved in the Kerala Assembly by Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath today.

“The incident in Aluva is unfortunate, these types of things shouldn’t repeat; it is our duty to prevent crime. Our state is a model in the country when it comes to maintaining law and order. There is no threat to the people living in Kerala. This is an isolated incident. The Opposition trying to tarnish the government’s image,” the Chief Minister said.

VD Satheeshan, leader of the Opposition the assembly alleged that due to the “deteriorated” law and order in the state, people are sacred.
“People are scared to go out alone, drug mafia and gangsters are lurking in the state in broad daylight and our government is doing nothing. Now, they are saying the Aluva incident is an isolated issue,” Satheeshan alleged.

World Bank officials met Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday.

The Opposition staged a walkout protesting against the state government over several issues.

Last week an eight-year-old girl, the daughter of migrant labourers was abducted from outside her home at night and sexually assaulted by a Kerala native who is an accused in several theft cases. The incident took place at Chathampuram of Keezhmad Panchayat in Aluva.

This was the second incident of rape that has been reported from Aluva in the last three months.

In July a five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and killed in Aluva. The accused, a native of Bihar, was caught soon thereafter and he confessed to the crime, according to the police. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kerala police, which probed the case had submitted the charge sheet against the accused in a POCSO court on September 2. (ANI)
